Every industry has its bad weeks. Bollywood has had bad decades. What follows is not a list of rumours — it is the handful of episodes that actually moved careers, contracts and, in a few cases, law.

The tapes that ended the silence

Leaked recordings have done more damage to Hindi film reputations than any review ever has. The pattern repeats: a private conversation reaches a newsroom, the denial arrives within hours, and the denial is what people remember.

    Casting couch, said out loud

For years it was the industry's open secret, discussed at parties and never on record. When actors finally started naming names publicly, the response split cleanly — the older generation called it exaggeration, the younger one called it Tuesday.

    The drug case years

The investigations that followed a high-profile death in 2020 turned into something else entirely: months of chat-log leaks, agency summons and prime-time trials. Several of those cases quietly closed with no charges filed. The careers did not quietly reopen.

Nepotism, and the argument that never ends

One talk-show joke in 2017 turned a word most viewers had never used into a permanent industry fault line. It also changed the economics — outsider-led films started outperforming star-kid launches, and studios noticed before the press did.

    Marriages that became public property

Divorces used to be settled in silence. Now they are settled in statements, and the statements are drafted by publicists. The shift from privacy to press release is the real scandal of the streaming era.

    Why these stick

The ones that last are never the ones with the loudest headline. They are the ones that exposed how the business actually works — who gets protected, who gets dropped, and how fast.
